Culture and Faith: A Brief Introduction to Islam
Arab culture, language, and politics are closely tied to their dominant religion, Islam. Islam reinforces these other cultural structures through its emphasis on Arabic as the only legitimate language for the Qur’an; and the Qur’an, the sacred writings of Islam, reinforce the culture and obedience to political authorities. Although Islam is widely held and practiced outside of Arabic culture, many Arab scholars believe that is a watered-down form of the religion. This paper briefly explores the history of Arab culture and its dominant religion, Islam, then compares and contrasts the tenets of Islam with the beliefs of a Christian.
